Using the IDEAS Word Processor

There are many features included in the IDEAS Word Processor, which can be accessed from the File Menu by clicking on Word Processor.

You will notice immediately that it has the familiar look and feel of commonly used word processors. You can learn about how to use some of the common features below.

 

1.Save a Document - To save a document at any time, simply click on the File menu and select Save or Save As. You can save documents in the popular Microsoft Word (.doc), Rich Text Format (.rtf), Hypertext Markup Language (.htm), or Plain Text (.txt) formats.
2.Export to PDF - If you decide you want to export a document to PDF format, click on the File menu and select Export to PDF or click on Options and select the PDF option.
3.Edit Document Text - If you need to edit a document, the commonly used edit features, such as, copy and paste are located from either the Edit menu or the IDEAS Word Processor toolbar.
4.Change Views - There are two main view options to choose from. You can either choose Normal, which will fill the screen with the document or Page Layout, which will show you the document with spacing around the page. You may also zoom in on the document by adjusting the zoom options from the View menu.
5.Insert a Header and Footer - If you wish to insert a Header and Footer into your document, click on the View menu and select Header and Footer.
6.Insert Files or Images - Files and images can be inserted into a document from the Insert menu. File formats that are supported by IDEAS Word Processor include Microsoft Word (.doc), Rich Text Format (.rtf), Hypertext Markup Language (.htm), and Plain Text (.txt). Supported image formats include Windows Bitmap (.BMP), Tagged Image Format (.TIF), Windows Meta File (.WMF), Portable Network Graphics (.PNG), JPEG Interchange Format (.JPG, .JPEG), and finally, Graphics Interchange Format (.GIF)
7.Insert Text Frames - To border text, you can create text frames which are essentially boxes that you can type into. To insert a text frame, click on the Insert menu and select Text Frame.
8.Insert Hyperlinks - To quickly navigate through your text document or link your document to other local files, click on the Insert menu and select Hyperlink.
9.Insert Page Breaks - If you wish to include Page Breaks, this can also be done from the Insert menu as well.
10. Format Text - If you want to format any or all of the text in your document, you can do so from the Format menu or from the Formatting toolbar. Some of the options include formatting Character (Font), Paragraphs, and Bullets and Numbering.
11.Insert Tables - Tables can be inserted and manipulated in a document by clicking on the Table menu.
